Who We Are

IBS Industries, Inc. was incorporated in 1967 as Jackson County Sheltered Workshop and opened its doors for operation in Independence on September 15, 1969. In the years since 1969 many exciting changes have occurred at Jackson County Sheltered Workshop, not the least of which was the name change to Independence and Blue Springs Industries, Inc. or, IBS Industries, Inc. as we are better known.

In 1971 a second sheltered workshop was opened in Blue Springs. In 1980 and 1981 IBS Industries, Inc. moved into new facilities built especially for them by the Jackson County Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled.

In 1983 IBS became one of the first workshops in Missouri to send employees to customer sites for work. We provided clerical services to the United Missouri Bank and custodial services to the Blue Ridge Mall.

In 1989 IBS became affiliated with NISH (then known as National Industries for the Severely Handicapped) to seek contract opportunities with the federal government through the Javits-Wagner-O´Day program, now known as the Ability One program. In 1990 we were awarded our first contract with the government providing clerical services to the General Services Administration. Since that time we have been awarded several other federal contracts providing clerical services, mailroom operations and custodial services.

In 2005 IBS Industries began Secure Document Solutions (SDS), our brand name document destruction business. The success of that business is evident by the permenanent twenty five jobs that it has created. In 2008 and forward we intend to expand the business to include electronic recycling and hard drive destruction.
